Fujifilm

Fujifilm has been an important player in the optical industry for years. Established in 1934, the company has had a long tradition in producing photographic films, motion-picture films and equipment, as well as providing services for the industry. It has produced numerous photo cameras, from 35mm film SLRs to mirrorless and waterproof cameras. One interesting aspect is that the X series mirrorless cameras are still made in Japan. Traditionally, Fujifilm cameras (on both film and digital) came with Fujinon lenses, although there are also other manufacturers that produce lenses for the Fuji X Mount, such as Carl Zeiss and Samyang .

One specificity of Fujinon lenses is the so called Electronic Beam Coating. It was a 11 layer coating advertised as a system which eliminated flare and ghosts, improving detail and color rendering. The 55mm f1.8 and 135mm f3.5 Fujinon EBCs that we have are very well made, sharp and have an interesting image rendering: colors are rich and yet delicate, being miles away of the over saturated look of many modern lenses. Our kit came on a Fujica ST801 and although the lenses are in M42, they have a little metal border that must be removed in order to properly adapt them to digital cameras.
