Mamiya

Mamiya is probably one of the most prestigious and well known Japanese camera and lens manufacturers. The company was founded in 1940 in Tokyo by Seiichi Mamiya. The company still produces high-end cameras and accessories. They became known for their 120mm medium format cameras, although they also produced 35mm film and digital cameras. We believe that one of their 35mm film cameras, the NC1000s, has one of the best viewfinders you'll find on any SLR.

In 2009, the Danish high end company Phase One purchased stakes in the Japanese company and in 2012 Mamiya Leaf was created by merging Mamiya and Leaf Imaging. The classic camera and lenses made by Mamiya still have quite a number of fans, as its products are reputed to be of high quality, both in terms of optics and craftsmanship. Mamiya used a number of bayonet mounts for its cameras, such as the CS used on NC1000s series, but you can also find some M42 lenses, like the 135mm f2.8 Mamiya/Sekor SX.
